Visuray has successfully run the new VR90s Advanced Diagnostic Tool for the first time. The operation took place in an offshore well in the Netherlands, for a major Dutch oil company. The objective of the operation was to determine the exact position of a stuck fish to enable an efficient intervention.
The new VR90s tool is an improved version of the VR90* Downhole X-ray Diagnostic Tool with a higher temperature rating (125 deg C), slimmer build (3 3/8 in diameter), and a new positioning module to allow more precise imaging. It is also H2S rated; compliant with NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156.
Despite the opaque fluid in the well, Visuray’s VR90s tool acquired images indicating that the top of the fish was sitting below a restriction and could not be fished directly. The VR90s tool diagnosis subsequently enabled the client to proceed with their intervention plan.
