Visuray has successfully run the new VR90s Advanced Diagnostic Tool for the first time. The operation took place in an offshore well in the Netherlands, for a major Dutch oil company. The objective of the operation was to determine the exact position of a stuck fish to enable an efficient intervention.
The new VR90s tool is an improved version of the VR90* Downhole X-ray Diagnostic Tool with a higher temperature rating (125 deg C), slimmer build (3 3/8 in diameter), and a new positioning module to allow more precise imaging. It is also H2S rated; compliant with NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156.
Despite the opaque fluid in the well, Visuray’s VR90s tool acquired images indicating that the top of the fish was sitting below a restriction and could not be fished directly. The VR90s tool diagnosis subsequently enabled the client to proceed with their intervention plan.
‘Visuray has completed its first VR90s Advanced Diagnostic job and provided a clear recommendation to the client, proving that the VR90s tool delivers exactly what it claims to do,’ says Radu Achihai, Operations Manager Europe. ‘Visuray’s track record in using X-rays for downhole imaging is getting stronger by the day, and we are proud to offer services that help oil companies plan more intelligent and efficient interventions.’
